The success of your Bowen Therapy treatment rests with both your treatment and what you do to support your body in the days after your treatment.
Some of these supportive measures include:
- On the first day of treatment, don’t sit for more than half an hour without walking around the room, to lock in back moves
- Just warm showers for the week after treatment – no rubbing, hot water bottles or hot or cold showers
- Drink 6-8 glasses of water per day
- Don’t cross your knees or feet ever again
- DO NOT roll or crack your neck or back (or any other joint either!)
- No other therapies or treatments to be used while receiving Bowen Therapy. Other treatments will greatly reduce the effectiveness of Bowen on your body (e.g. Physiotherapy, Chiropractics, Massage, Magnets). There are no interactions with any medications.
- Avoid lifting any heavy objects for 8 hours
- No exercise except walking
- No wallets kept in back pocket of pants ever again
To further support the Bowen Technique please ensure that you have adequate dietary sources of:
Vitamin C: This vitamin is essential for normal growth and development/ growth and repair of tissues. Foods with a high Vitamin C content include green peppers, citrus fruits, strawberries, tomatoes and broccoli. This is a water-soluble vitamin which means you must take in adequate amounts every day as your body does not store it.
Vitamin B: There are eight B-group vitamins and they are essential for energy production and red blood cell synthesis. Processing foods destroys a large amount of the Vitamin B in foods which is why it is important to have wholegrain cereals and grains and unprocessed vegetables.
Iron: This is important for carrying oxygen from the lungs to the body. The best sources of iron are lean meats, liver, kidney and heart (are high in iron), rolled oats, legumes, potatoes, peas, beans and broad beans and dried fruit.
Vitamin deficiencies can only be diagnosed with blood testing. However, ensuring that you have a varied diet including foods which provide these vitamins and minerals, helps support your body in whatever endeavours you are trying to achieve.
